We took a train from Budapest to Vienna (approx 2.5 hours) with the Danagher family. Nora and Lucy go to school with Mackenzie (she and Nora have homeroom together). Guiseppe is their younger brother, he's 5, and their mother is Stephanie (their dad joined us Friday night).

After checking in at our self-catering apartments and having lunch we headed for the Prater district and the 65 meter high Giant Ferris Wheel, The Riesenrad.

pic picThe Riesenrad was originally constructed in 1897 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Emperor Franz Josef I. It burned down in 1945 and was rebuilt then opened again in 1947. It has 15 gondola cars and turns at a rate of two and a half feet per second. There is a exhibit room that shows the history of the Ferris Wheel. We walked around all the models and then headed for the ride!

These are inside the gondola on the Ferris Wheel.

Then we wandered around to see what else was open. The Prater is a small amusement park with various rides and booths. Most open in March so only a few things were open.

The kids rode the ponies a couple of times and screamed to slow down the whole time!

The bumper cars were open too and we rode those at least 4-5 times!

It was dinner time by then so we headed to the grocery store to stock up and picked up a pizza. Yummy.
