April 11, 2004 - Happy Easter! Mackenzie and I arrived in Amsterdam Easter Sunday, this is the train we took from the airport to Centraal Station. David and Lindsey came in Monday morning from the States to join us. Lindsey is Mackenzie's long time friend from San Diego so they were excited to see each other. Centraal Station is the building behind them, one tower is a clock the other tower shows the wind direction.
After a short nap we went on one of the canal cruises around the city to see what was around and get a bit orientated.
The canal houses were beautiful and it was fun to see the different styles all around the city. Every canal house has a gable at the top of the house to winch furniture and stuff up through windows to get them into the houses. The houses all have super narrow, very steep and sometimes winding staircases inside (we had trouble just getting our luggage upstairs).

We went through lots of canals and saw lots of bridges and this brand new parking garage (the right photo) outside Centraal Station for bicycles. Parking for 2500 bicycles and it was packed all the time!

Later we went on the canal pedal boats. We split the time and the girls took the first 30 minutes. They were a bit off with their steering using the rudder so we serpentined most of their shift. They enjoyed the ride back when they got to sit in the back and relax.
Maybe a little too relaxed...
